TANGO CORE™ is a unique tango philosophy developed by Tango Space

Realising that students needed a more holistic approach to learning than the mere practice of steps, we have developed a unique philosophy of teaching that allows students to use their bodies and minds during the dancing. Developed through years of dancing, TANGO CORE™ encompasses principles from Feldenkreis, Alexander technique and the Grinberg method to help tango students make the most of their innate abilities in the dancing.

One of the most exciting elements of tango! In this module, we want to train you in what we, at Tango Space, call ‘The key shape’: it’s the shape that brings power and fluidity to our dancing, and which we need to constantly train into our body. So we have a lot of deep technique exercises. Prepare to work! In this module, we also show you how to move along the dance floor in a unique and beautiful way while keeping the connection. We also show you one of our favorite sequences, which allows for beautiful decorations for the follower.

Video 1: KEY SHAPE, POWER AND FLUIDITY

  • What is the key shape in our bodies that makes tango different?
  • How can you generate more power and fluidity in your body?

Video 2: PLAYING WITH THE LINE OF DANCE, SPACE AND TIME

  • How can we move along the line of dance using dissociation and pivot?
  • How can we play with space and time for musical decorations?

WEEK 4 – GIRO – RHYTHMIC, LAPIZ

Tango Core Giro

Wow! So we’ve built a strong foundation with walking, sophistication and the key shape. It’s time to take things to the next level with some giro – but not any giro. We’ll first play with dynamics and teach you how to express shifts in the music with small, choppy steps and the quebrada. We will then take it one step further and move into romantic, sweeping movement and show you everything you need to know about decorations, for leaders and followers. But most importantly: we put everything we have taught you into one unique sequence that involves cross-system, playing with the embrace, using the key shape, decoration, and the giro

Video 1: PERFECTING THE TECHNIQUE AND PLAYING WITH DYNAMICS

  • How to build more power and dynamics to your giro?
  • When can we use giros in the music?

Video 2: FLEXIBILITY AND DECORATIONS FOR LEADERS AND FOLLOWERS

  • How to take your giro to the next level?
  • Flexibility between open and close embrace
