TANGO SPACE GROUP CLASSES PROGRAMME

Theme:

Laying out the fundamentals and meeting dance partners

How Long:

12 weeks

What you need to know before moving to the next level:

Walk, posture, embrace, cross, ochos forward and backward, half giro, half giro with parada. You will know how to dance those movements if you follow the full programme.

Rotating Weekly Programme:

    • Week 1: The Walk
    • Week 2: The Cross
    • Week 3: Forward Ocho
    • Week 4: Medio Giro
    • Week 5: Changing directions
    • Week 6: Planeos
    • Week 7: Ocho cortado
    • Week 8: Back Ocho
    • Week 9: Americana
    • Week 10: Pivot changing ochos (Back & Forward Ochos)
    • Week 11: Calesita
    • Week 12: Dissociation

Practical Details:

  • Each week, all the classes are focused on the same topic, with a different movement. If you take more than one class per week, you will learn the technique better, and know how to use it in more than one movement
  • We rotate the programme every 12 weeks, so whichever week you start, you will have covered the full programme after 10 weeks
  • We recommend taking at least one class per week. If you miss one week, do not worry: you will easily adjust to the next week’s topic. If you need some extra help, do not hesitate to ask your teachers.
  • After you have gone through the full programme, ask one of your teachers if you are ready to move on to the next level

Theme:

Building on the fundamentals, adding fluidity, and getting ready for social dancing

How Long:

12 weeks – 3 months (though the programme is 12 weeks, we recommend to complete the 3 months programme at this level before moving onto to Improvers level)

What you need to know before moving to the next level:

  • Fluidity in all the fundamentals, with good walking, posture, embrace and ocho backwards and forward.
  • In addition to the movements of the beginner programme, you need to know how to dance the full giro.
  • You need to know how to transition from circular to linear movements.
  • You need to feel comfortable dancing in small spaces and improvising – so we recommend you start going dancing socially.
  • You will know all this if you follow the full programme.

Rotating Weekly Programme:

    • Week 1: Power & Elegance in the walk
    • Week 2: The cross in cross system
    • Week 3: Variation of the forward ocho
    • Week 4: Medio giro with parada
    • Week 5: Changing directions in the cross
    • Week 6: Variations of planeos
    • Week 7: Variation of ocho cortado
    • Week 8: Sequences with back ochos
    • Week 9: Sequences using americana
    • Week 10: Changing dynamics in the pivots
    • Week 11: Movements including calesita
    • Week 12: Balance in Dissociation

Practical Details:

  • Each week, all the classes are focused on the same topic, with a different movement. If you take more than one class per week, you will learn the technique better, and know how to use it in more than one movement
  • We rotate the programme every 12 weeks, so whichever week you start, you will have covered the full programme after 12 weeks
  • We recommend taking at least one class per week. If you miss one week, do not worry: you will easily adjust to the next week’s topic. If you need some extra help, do not hesitate to ask your teachers.
  • After you have gone through the full programme, ask one of your teachers if you are ready to move on to the next level
  • Note that a lot of our students take both the beginner and improvers classes together so we have created the programme so that the classes flow smoothly from beginner level to improvers level.
